Old Kenya Updates

Kenya Trip – January 2006

Being born and raised in the USA, it was quite an eye opener to see how basic things like water is so scarce in many parts of the world. Everywhere we passed water, we saw people washing their clothes in it, bathing their young, and collecting and lugging as much of it as humanly possible back to their homes for cooking and drinking. And yes, one does have to boil it before it can be drank.
Our Brethren in Kenya have been suffering from drought for a long time. This particular region (Eastern Kenya) lost over 80% of their livestock. Many of our brethren were going a day (sometimes two days) a week without eating. This particular area, where the Miangi family lives, hadn’t had adequate rain in 5 years.
Typical Mud Hut that you will find some of God’s children (our brethren) living in in Western Kenya. This particular one is near to Evans Ochieng, along the shores of lake Victoria.
You will always find children running and playing along the beach, and if you stay around till the end of the day, you will most likely find a few who don’t leave the beach, because they have no home to return to. Evans has taken in orphans many times to feed, clothe and nourish them.
Bible studying with brethren in Tanzania.
Kenyans are hard working peasant farmers.
All these people just got out of that small truck, they were cramped in like sardines.
I asked: Can I take a picture? He said: Sure, as long as I get a copy of it!

This particular large fish, is a Nile Perch, introduced to Lake Victoria by man, and like everything else that man touches, has become a curse. The Nile Perch are eating up all the Tilapia, the fish that most sustain living on in that part of the world.
