Brethren,How fortunate we are to have our Heavenly Father who has called us, and His Beloved Son who’s hands we have been placed into, to keep us, teach us, groom us and lead us as we patiently await His return. It is with great pleasure I write this letter to update you on the current conditions concerning our impoverished E. Africa Brethren and the work our Creator has us involved in over there. First let me tell you that our Brethren send their Highest Greetings to all of you. They are quite aware of the sacrifices many of you have made to assist them in their time of need. I often remind them that they may see my face when I visit, but it is the donors (those of you with the compassionate hearts) who’s prayers and support have helped so many, and in so many ways. Let us Praise God for that. As you will see in this report, everything Kenya Hands of Hope (KHofH) has been involved in has been blessed by our Heavenly Father. Let’s start this report in the Korea district of Kenya. The assistance we have given our brethren there in Masaba, has enabled them to flourish and stand on their own feet. After assisting that group with the construction of some shade for their congregating on Sabbaths (they were previously meeting under a tarp) and after the installation of a water tank which is fed by the roof gutters, and the well we have dug, there have been no further cases of typhoid amongst the brethren. The brethren have also been engaged in turning that small orphanage and elementary school of theirs into a boarding school, which has been a real blessing for them. Now, they are not only caring for orphans, and continuing to teach the surrounding village children how to read & write, and instructing them with Biblical lessons, but are now self sufficient and no longer in need of any financial support, thanks to the income from those students who are boarding, and the sales from some of the crops they have harvested. What a wonderful conclusion to the help that has been given to them. Next let us have a look at our Sengera orphanage which is located in the small village of Sengera (located a short distance from the city of Kisii, Kenya.) as some of you may know, about 5 years ago we built that church group a meeting hall to congregate. (Previously they were meeting under some trees on Sabbath.) Then three years ago we constructed a house for the orphan boys to reside. Then last year we constructed a kitchen where the boys prepare their meals. Now we have completed the construction of another house, where a number of orphan girls are residing. The girls arrived just in the past few weeks. And they arrived with empty bellies, broken hearts, and only the clothes on their backs (which were worn out.) Three of them were previously living with an elderly church widow who could no longer sustain them. The church group they came from is located aside the boarder of the Maasai tribe. One of the girls (Ann) khofh had previously helped about two Month ago when she had taken ill and was close to death. Khofh funded her transport to the children’s hospital in Bomet Kenya for evaluation. Turned out she was suffering (and almost dead) from severe dehydration. They admitted her and hydrated her for three days. After returning home, that group requested us to take all three of their orphans to our Sengera orphanage because the elderly widow they were living with could no longer care for them. All three were suffering from lack of food, water, clothing, and proper bedding. As you will see in the pictures below (thanks to you donors.) we were able to take them in, and all three are now eating well, clothed, living in a very healthy and godly environment, and all are now in school. Praise our Heavenly Father again, for giving all of you those compassionate hearts to assist theses orphans.
We have also taken in two additional orphan boys here at the “Sengera House” from another remote church group who could no longer sustain them. Their story is pretty much the same, they arrived hungry, lacking clothes, and not in school. And again, thanks to you donors, they are now happy, fed, clothed, have bed & bedding, and also, all are now in school. So currently at “Sengera House One” we have four boys: Nehemiah age 15, Brian age 14, Enoch age 10, and Francis who is also age 10. And at “Sengera House Two” the four girls, Ann age 9, Maurine age 7, Mildred age 10, and Diane, also age 10.
At the same camp, on the same property, there are also five additional orphans living. They are cared for by the Elder there Charles Mokoro. Charles and his wife are in their 70ies, and no longer able to dig and farm. Charles runs a small Chemist shop in the village and sells medication made from all natural ingredients. He struggles to care for the orphans under his care, but has been doing so and also has continued to pay their school fees, and we (khofh) do help them with food, clothing & shoes. Kenya is a Country full of orphans, ALL of the church groups care for orphans. Michael Obogo in Nkach has around 7. Ezekiel in Kenyetta has three living at his camp, and also feeds around 15 other young orphan children that live in his local area who come to his house every day and are given something to put in their little bellies. It’s usually only a small bowl of rice, or beans, but enough to help sustain them. Ezekiel has a job in the village working as a security guard. His salary is very small, but he manages to provide for his wife, their four children, his three orphans, and still helps feed those 15 other orphans. We have assisted him numerous times. One day I visited and he was ill with malaria. I asked him if he had the pill that cures malaria (it’s natural and made from a plant that is grown right there in Kenya) his reply was “no”. He didn’t have the $2.50 to purchase the pill, so I opened my bag and gave him one. I carry them with me all the time because I rarely visit a church family where there is not someone who is suffering from malaria, and the pill is from a natural herb.
On my recent trip to Kenya which I returned from this week, much was accomplished. The orphans and I poured some concrete around the orphanage, including a sidewalk. The boys have been continuing to learn many skills including masonry, so eventually they will be able to earn their own daily bread. As many of you know, we build the kitchen together, and many “Rocket Stoves” in the past.
We also visited a number of congregations from The Great Rift Valley to the shores of the Indian Ocean there in Mombasa. One was the Ramula church group, where we completed the supplying of Bibles that we had promised. Now each and every adult in that congregation has his/her very own Bible. But there are still 15 children there who can read English that requested Bibles. And I promised that we would supply Bibles to each and every one of them. But as I often mention, we have to assist and utilize funds according to priority. And although much has been accomplished there in Kenya, additional assisting is still needed, for many are still suffering. When I visited the group in Nykach, I found them congregating on Sabbath under a hand full of burlap bags, and a few old & torn plastic tarps. (See picture below.) I promised them that I would sound the alarm, and raise the needed funds to build them some better shade so they could keep Sabbath together in a better structure, and even be able to meet during inclement weather.
The congregation in Bomet is also in need of some better shade to meet under, and as you can see in the picture below, the water they are currently using for everything (drinking, cooking, washing etc.) is quite dirty. If possible we need to help them by funding another well.
So once again, let me thank you donors for assisting these impoverished brethren of ours living in those 3rd world countries there in E. Africa.
